(Based on the painting 7 AM by Edward Hopper)
This memory lost in the folds of time,
Tucked deep within minds sublime.
The cool air wafted through the trees,
Not a soul stirs except the bees.
A white store stands alone on the street,
Without any sounds, not even of feet.
Hanging alone on the wall a clock,
Beating a steady tik-tock, tik-tock.
A brilliantly blue summer sky,
Broken only by the bright circular pie.
The emerald green of trees so fresh,
With serene surrounding perfectly mesh.
The depths of the forest are teeming with life,
Hidden in darkness to cause some strife.
This memory lost in the folds of time,
Tucked deep within minds sublime.
With a terrible, horrible start,
Their whole World tumbled apart.
Though they started as friends,
Many quickly met their ends.
Through the horrors of battle,
They were herded like cattle.
Each fought so hard, each woman and man,
Each thinking the same, “If anyone, I can.”
Though battles were fought, no matter the cost,
The “once upon a time” peace was soon lost.
A lone soldier stands beneath the trees,
Not a soul stirring, not even the bees.
This memory lost in the folds of time,
Tucked deep within minds sublime.
Inside the minds of heroes of this Nation,
The single, the one Greatest Generation.
This poem I wrote for my AP Literature class, but I was very pleased with it, so I decided to share it all with you. I hope you enjoyed my poem :)
